Every building or industrial facility must be separately connected to the public sewer. However, one or more buildings located on property belonging to the same owner may be served with the same building sewer during the period of ownership. New accessory dwelling units which have independent exterior access from the existing residence, have side and rear setback sufficient for fire safety, and are contained within the existing space of a single-family residence or accessory structure shall not be required to be separately connected to the public sewer. Upon the subsequent subdivision and sale of a portion of the lot, the portion not directly connected with such a public sewer shall be separately connected with a public sewer, and it shall be unlawful for the owner thereof to continue to use or maintain such indirect connection. (Ord. 137 §3, 2017; Ord. 72 §1, 1991; Ord. 3 §3.5, 1973)
